The sponsor of the site: the ECMIB project

Sample ImageThe Eritrea Coastal, Marine and Islands Biodiversity Project (ECMIB), funded by the Global Environment Facility (GEF), implemented by the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) and anchored in the Ministry of Fisheries aims to support the State of Eritrea’s efforts to conserve and manage globally significant biodiversity of its coastal, marine and islands ecosystems. The ECMIB Project started in 1999 and will finish at the end of 2007. During this period, the ECMIB project has built the national capacity for sustainable development through a participatory management framework, has realised numerous surveys on the marine and coastal resources, has prepared the ground for the implementation of an integrated coastal zone management, has developed an operational information system and has increased public awareness and education. This web site is a legacy of the ECMIB project.
